Raymarine has released new software for the A65 Dual Function Chartplotter, version 2.28.
This software kit also contains the previously released software for the DSM25 Digital Sounder Module, version 2.02. The DSM25 software was released in May 2006. If you already upgraded the software in your DSM25, it is not necessary to do so again.
The update makes the following enhancements to the A65 Display:
- Color threshold feature added to the fishfinder application.
- Boat icon now outlined for better visibility in the chartplotter application.
- Heading and COG vectors on chart drawn wider for better visibility.
The update makes the following corrections to the A65 Display:
- Corrects waypoint editing of East/West longitude values when unit is operating in Danish or Norwegian language mode.
- Corrects minor flickering of the display when the fishfinder display is split with other applications (FF/Nav. Data, FF/Temperature Graph, FF/CDI)
- Corrects the AM/PM symbol from intermittently showing up in 24 hour clock mode.
- Corrects depth offset value transmitted on NMEA.
- Ensures the temperature data is not transmitted over NMEA when a DSM25 is not conntected.
- Enables display of NMEA values for paddle wheel speed (VHW), log and trip distance (VLW) for systems without a DSM25. Makes sure DSM25 generated values have higher priority when DSM25 is present.
Obtaining the Software The upgrades for both the A65 and DSM25 are made via the CompactFlash card reader in the A65 display. The software is available for downlad by registered product owners by clicking the link below. If you have not already registered your A65 display online you will be prompted to create a Raymarine.com Insider account, and then register your display. Raymarine Insider VIP's can download the software directly after logging in. Performing the Upgrade To complete the upgrade process using the files you just downloaded you will need: - A CompactFlash memory card. Any card of 8 MB capacity or larger will usually work. Raymarine recommends using SanDisk brand flash cards. Do not use the Navionics chart card for this procedure.
- A CompactFlash reader/writer. this device allows you to move files between your CompactFlash card and personal computer.
- A personal computer, Windows or Mac compatible.
Both CompactFlash cards and reader/writer devices are available in just about any department store, electronics store, or computer store. You will usually find them in the same section as the digital camera accessories. If you need additional information, please see: Preparing the CompactFlash Card There are software downloads available for users of both Windows-based PC's and Apple Mac Computers. The Windows version of the download is a self-extracting ZIP file. Simply download the file from Raymarine to your desktop. Double-click the file to activate. By default, the package will extract to the location:
C:\Raymarine\A65\A65_v228 If you are happy with that location click the UNZIP button, then close Win Zip when the process is done. The Mac version of the software is a simple ZIP file. Use your own Stuff-It Expander software to open and extract the software file. Windows users who are familiar with Win Zip can also download and use this file if they desire. Copying Files to a CompactFlash Memory Card | PC Users: point your computer to: |
C:\Raymarine\A65\A65_v228 Inside the folder you should find the following folders:
- A65_BTLD_UPD 2.02, current A65 boot loader
- A65_APP_UPD 2.28, updated A65 application file
- DSM25_BTLD_UPD 2.02, current DSM25 boot loader (if a DSM is installed)
- DSM25_APP_UPD 2.02, current DSM25 application file (if a DSM is installed)
 | Mac users, go to the location you extracted the files contained in the ZIP file to. You should see the same files as mentioned above. |
Now, for both systems, using your Compact flash data card and your computers Compact flash reader/writer copy all four of the files to the root directory of the Compact flash memory. For example, if your CF reader/writer is drive D: on your system, the files should sit directly on the D: drive, and not in a subfolder. Your upgrade card is now ready. Installing the A65 and the DSM25 Software Updates There are 2 update files for the A65 Display and 2 update files for the DSM25 Sounder Module. If your system only includes the A65 chartplotter (No DSM25 Sounder Module) you only need to install the A65 boot loader and A65 application code. If your system includes both the A65 Chartplotter and DSM25 Sounder Module, we recommend that you install both the A65 boot loader and application code and DSM25 boot loader and application code. After you have created your CompactFlash update card you can begin the upgrade process. There are actually 2 update files on the CompactFlash card for each product. You must first install the boot loader, or low-level, software and then the application file for each product. The A65 includes a Software Upgrade Utility for installing these software updates.
